With the release of BS 8102:2022 - Protection of below ground structures against water ingress – Code of practice, what are the updates and what exactly has changed? What impact will the updates and changes have on design choices and waterproofing strategies moving forward? Within the Type A, B and C forms of waterproofing, substantial detail has been added to aid in the design and implantation of these waterproofing methods. Michael qualified as a Certificated Surveyor of Structural Waterproofing (CSSW) in 2007. Between 2003 and 2014 he worked as the Technical Manager and ultimately a Director for Safeguard Europe Ltd. Michael was responsible for the production of Technical Literature and Specifications and also in supporting contractors whilst onsite. During this period he offered advice to different parties on building, damp-proofing and waterproofing elements.
During his time at Safeguard Europe, Michael was trained on a one-to-one basis by Phil Hewitt, respectfully the top waterproofing consultant of his time, who approached Michael to continue his practice pending his retirement.
Michael is currently a full-time independent consultant, offering expert advice to different parties on building, damp-proofing and waterproofing aspects; acting on behalf of clients in legal disputes, site investigations, waterproofing design and, in the preparation of technical literature. He carries out a range of training, including training courses for the PCA for those pursuing the CSSW qualification. Michael is a member of the PCA Structural Waterproofing Steering Group responsible for the revision and production of documents and literature available to trade body members.
