About The Presenters – Dr John Williams & James Walker

Dr John Williams – RSK

Dr John Williams is RSK’s Principal Consultant and has almost 25 years’ experience as a consulting Wood Scientist. His academic background is in the field of timber preservation and has carried out a wide range of site investigations in buildings and structures, many of them comprising timber frame or of historic importance.

John is an expert in the use of non-destructive survey techniques, establishing the extent and cause of timber decay, its evaluation and development of remedial solutions. He is also an experienced lecturer on the examination and assessment of structural timber and has published a number of specialist papers on the subject.

James Walker – Milner Associates

James Walker is a chartered structural engineer and Technical Director at Milner Associates consultancy. He is an expert in the structural design, appraisal and repair of timber buildings with an academic background in adhesive connections. He has inspected and repaired historic structures as well as modern timber frame, glulam, SIP and CLT buildings.

James is a technical consultant to the Structural Timber Association, providing guidance on the structural, fire and durability design of timber buildings and has a specific interest in low-energy construction. James is a member of the British standards committee responsible for the design of timber structures and a member of the European committee responsible for the fire design of timber structure
