What's on the Agenda for this round of Regional Meetings?
The next round of regional meetings commences in March, but why should you make the effort to attend?
There will be the usual chance to network and meet peers from within the industry and catch up on the all the latest news from your Association, including news on the revision of BS 8102: 2009, the launch of our series of webinars, ‘Paula’s Papers‘ and much more. But what ‘hot’ topics will be in the spotlight…
Investigation of Moisture and its Effects in Traditional Buildings – A unified approach
For the first time ever, all four Heritage protection organisations of the United Kingdom together with the Property Care Association and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) have publicly backed one document that describes the knowledge needed to investigate dampness in older buildings – “Investigation of Moisture and its Effects in Traditional Buildings”.

This joint methodology developed by PCA, RICS & Historic England was launched at the PCA’s International Building Preservation Conference at the end of last year and promptly went “viral”. Steve Hodgson will be discussing the methodology in more detail, including steps to compliance, how this will affect PCA members and changes that might be required to embrace it. This is a ‘not to be missed‘ session for anyone involved in damp diagnostics.
Occupational Respiratory Hazards
Occupational respiratory diseases accounts for approximately 12,000 deaths each year. Whilst the issues of asbestos is well documented and understood, silica is the biggest risk to construction workers after asbestos, but often gets very little consideration. Heavy and prolonged exposure to respirable crystalline silica can cause lung cancer and other serious respiratory diseases.
Everybody deserves to work in a safe and healthy environment and Sundström Safety UK will be looking at how we protect again respiratory hazards.
Trialling a ‘Networking breakfast’
We are trialling a ‘networking breakfast’ prior to the regional meetings at both the North and South East events. This trial follows requests from PCA members to extend the event and allow for more time to network and catch up with friends and peers within the industry.
We will update members as and when this will be rolled out at other locations, but for now, check out the dates and locations for the Spring round via the button below:

Remember, PCA members can gain those all important CPD points from attending a Regional Meeting whilst engaging with the Association, friends and peers within the industry. Get in touch with James Berry via email on [email protected] to confirm your attendance.
Remember to keep in the loop…
