Property Flood Resilience Code of Practice
The long awaited Property Flood Resilience Code of Practice is to be launched at an event in Westminster on the 10th February. Whilst this document has been a long time coming, the question is who will take ownership to avoid it becoming irrelevant and is it any good? How Thoughts on Mental Health Turned into Action
In 2018 I posted an article of LinkedIn talking about how the strains of everyday working life can negatively affect the wellbeing and productivity of staff. The only thing that has changed in the short time since I wrote the article is that the focus on mental health issues have continued to sharpen. There has been a growing recognition amongst many that maintaining good mental health benefits society, business, the health service, but primarily, it is essential for the healthy function of individuals and families.
The government, acting under pressure of public demand, has pledged to improve mental health services. They have also begun to consider legislation to require employers to think about mental wellbeing in a similar way to physical health and safety in the workplace – a strategy that we at the PCA welcome and hope that members will embrace.
We are delighted therefore to have done a deal with ATAS UK to provide a number of mental health first aid courses to members around the country. These two-day events are designed to help employees identify issues early and react to the needs of their people empathetically and compassionately. The dates available are:
Huntingdon: 12th – 13th February 2020; Stirling (Scotland): 18th – 19th February 2020; Bradford: 3rd – 4th March 2020 and Bristol: 11th -12th March 2020.
The stresses of daily life are all too real so keeping people productive happy and healthy is essential for any successful business. Though becoming a mental health first aider may not take the stress away it could help reduce lost days, improve profitability, retain skilled people and improve productivity.
We would recommend this training opportunity to all our members regardless, so why not take advantage of the highly discounted opportunity and come and gain the skills you need to be the mental health first aider in your company?!

Amenity Forum “Update” Events
The PCA’s Invasive Weed Group members are welcome to attend the Amenity Forum ‘update’ events, taking place over the next few months. Each programme is a little different but you can expect to hear news from around the Amenity sector and especially about the Amenity Standard – a new initiative to promote professional standards in the industry which will be launched in Edinburgh on 4th February (the PCA will also be present as we represent the largest group of Amenity Standard-approved contractors at the time of launch).
To register, or to find out more, please follow the link via the button below, contacting Amenity Forum directly to book a place at the venue closest to you.
