POST highlights economic cost of invasive species

We can share with readers, a new research briefing from POST (an influential body which conducts research on behalf of parliamentary committees), highlighting the economic cost of invasive non-native species - estimated to be £1.8 billion per year! The report outlines the strategies in place for management and prevention, concluding: “The ongoing risks for the UK from INNS remain significant….and more needs to be done to avoid (minimise) future costs”. Social Housing Regulation Bill

The Social Housing Regulation Bill was finally brought to parliament this week, promised in the aftermath of the Grenfell tragedy. The Bill is designed to allow the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) to hold social housing providers to account and apply unlimited fines if they fail to provide decent standards. The RSH will now have the ability to inspect houses at 48 hours notice and order emergency repairs. The Government stated earlier in the week that the Bill would assist the regulator to “tackle damp, cold and unsafe homes and ensure landlords don’t ignore tenants”. The PCA will be following this closely and will keep you updated. For now, you can click on the link below for more information.

This is always well received and we look forward to welcoming our next intake onto the Structural Waterproofing Apprenticeship in August! For more information on the Apprenticeship Programme and availability for enrolling your Technicians, get in touch with Jade on [email protected] / 01480 400000.
