Why should you attend the 2024 Property Care Conference?

A new venue for 2024 at the Telford International Centre allows us the opportunity to grow the property care conference and we believe we have a conference programme that will allow us to do just that.

What does the programme have in store?

The first session is focused on policy and legislation. We will consider the Building Safety Act and what it means for competency, in the world of damp remediation. We will consider the wider implications of poor indoor air quality and we are also extremely pleased to announce Chetna Parmar, Cobden House Chambers will be speaking of her experiences as a barrister that deals with housing disrepair claims, detailing if the landscape has changed and the significance of the role of the specialist damp surveyor.

The second session has been designed to appeal to all damp and timber surveyors and contractors. It will start with a case study of Smithfield Restoration Project considering sustainability when looking at large timber restoration projects. This will also consider methods of measure moisture content in historical timber elements. After this Dr Scott Orr, UCL will consider the distribution of salts in masonry walls: Cause and effect. To round this session off we are pleased to welcome back Nicholas Donnithorne who once again will provide a unique insight into the world of wood boring insects.

We have always been very keen for these conferences to have an element of future gazing and the final session of the day will be very much technology focused. We will look at the use of artificial intelligence and how this might benefit report writing.

The final speaker of this session will be Ross Charters, Complete Preservation who we are delight has agreed to expand on a short presentation he delivered a couple of years ago and consider the impact of drainage on dampness in building and surveying consideration of drainage.

The big debate

For the panel debate we are going to pick up on a conversation that was started last year and was the topic of the first webinar of this year and that is around “lifestyle.” There can be no doubt that this is still an emotive and polarising topic and one that will we look to get a range of views on the topic.

In summary

In addition there will of course be the usual opportunity to network with peers from across industry. The PCA conferences have always been a platform for learning, elevating standards and sharing knowledge and has always been a must attend event for those wanting to be at the leading edge of the sectors we represent. This year’s programme provides an abundance of forward thinking that looks set to change our industry.
