Japanese knotweed Management Overseas – Defra Report
The long awaited report commissioned by Defra in response to the Commons Select Committee Report, was finally published last Friday. Snappily titled “International Approaches to Japanese Knotweed in the Context of Property Sales”, it will have been seen and read by many of our members already.
However for those members who haven’t seen it (or read all 108 pages!), there are no big surprises but according to your Technical Manager Peter Fitzsimons, the good news it that it is largely supportive of what PCA members are doing. Read Peter’s review by clicking on the button below…

New Online Course – Moisture Risks in Buildings
We shared with members a few weeks ago the news that we will be delivering UK Centre for Moisture in Building’s ( UKCMB) ‘Understanding and Managing Moisture Risks in Buildings’ course. Damp problems can be straightforward but as your Technical Manager James Berry points out, as we strive to improve our existing housing stock to reach our carbon footprint goals, these issues are becoming increasing complex.

Kickstart Scheme – Places still Remaining!
Thanks to those members who have expressed an interest in the Government’s new “Kickstart Scheme”. We have received over half of the 30 placements required to be part of this scheme, but we need a few more of you to ‘grab this opportunity’ and fulfil our quota.
We see this as a great initiative and one which provides support for YOUR businesses and provide fundamental life skills to the next working generation – and we have an opportunity to help you, our members, be a part of this.

Review of BS 8102 – First Formal Meeting to Take Place
We shared with members some weeks ago that the proposal for the review of BS 8102:2009 Code of Practice for Protection of Below Ground Structures against Water from the Ground had been approved by BSI. We have now been advised that an Editorial Project Manager has been assigned to the project and the first formal meeting will take place on 23rd October.
We welcome this development as this review has been one of the key objectives of your Association and the Structural Waterproofing Group (SWG) over this last year. BS 8102 forms the backbone of our training and we continue to push the standards even higher, remaining a ‘go to’ for assistance, commentary and suggestions on key legislation.
Green Homes Grant Scheme Article in PBC Today
Leading up to and following the launch of the Green Homes Grant Scheme, we continue to share information with members on the scheme through blogs and via our new ‘hub’.
Articles such as this one featured in PBC Today from Technical Manager James Berry certainly helps to push the importance of ensuring that homeowners understand exactly what they are purchasing, and why checking the building is fit for purpose is so important.
