What makes concrete watertight?

The Property Care Association (PCA) has developed a new training course for the structural waterproofing sector of the construction industry. The aim is to provide industry professionals and surveyors with a greater understanding of this complex heterogenous material and the provisions required to make concrete watertight.

The guidance provision in section 9 of BS 8102 highlights the requirements through all stages of the concrete making process, to form the Type B structurally integral concrete protection preventing ingress of water.

This training covers the following areas:

  • Concrete Materials and suppliers
  • Concrete placement
  • Defect remediation
  • Responsibilities

The outcome is to ensure that attendees are equipped to interpret the structural engineer’s concrete strength and mix design requirements. Enabling them to specify an effective methodology solution for a Type B structurally integral watertight solution.

Having personally attended this course I recommend it will be of significant benefit to all involved in providing waterproofing solutions, concrete specifiers and other construction professionals that engage in placing watertight concrete below ground.
