Government recommends PCA qualified members
The government has released guidance on 'Understanding and addressing the health risks of damp and mould in the home'. This guidance is a direct response to the Coroner's report. It makes sure that social and private sector landlords have a thorough understanding of their legal responsibilities, and of the serious health risks that damp and mould pose.
This is essential reading for anyone in the damp sector! We are elated that it recognised the high standards set by your Association and its members, by emphasising the necessity for engaging suitable competent and qualified tradesperson such as Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatments (CSRT) and Certificated Surveyor of Timber & Dampness in Buildings (CSTDB). This is an achievement that all members of the Association should be proud of and promote.

New report highlights £400 billion cost of invasive species
A fresh study released by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has been released, which highlights the economic and environmental impacts of invasive non-native species globally. Put bluntly, it has been noted that the cost of non-native species worldwide is a staggering £400 billion with the cost to the UK at £4 billion.
Technical Manager Daniel Docking shares his thoughts on this immense cost within his latest blog, summarising the IPBES and CABI study released in July, but also what these two reports could mean for those in the invasive weeds industry.

All Party Parliamentary Group produces new Healthy Homes Manifesto
Over the last few years the PCA has contributed and been involved in the work around the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) looking at Healthy Homes and buildings.
The group has produced a manifesto which was recently launched in conjunction with the BRE report considering 'The Cost of Ignoring Poor Housing'. The report gives an indication to the extent of the issues of dampness, but also an indication that there is cross party consensus that more must be done to address the issue.

Panel Debate #IPCC23
With only 6 days to go before the Property Care Conference, this years' panel debate is set to be a thought provoking one. The question posed to the panel is: 'How do we get ventilation and thermal efficiency working in harmony?'
