Continuing to raise standards with online training
During these difficult times we are pleased that many of the clients and customers PCA members help support are continuing to better understand damp and condensation and are seeking to develop their knowledge. Our online “Understanding Dampness and Condensation in Buildings” training course was recently delivered to a large Housing Association by your Technical Manager James Berry earlier this week.
At a time when more and more of us are indoors due to the pandemic, the issue of moisture and dampness in buildings hitting the headlines and the rollout of the Green Homes Grant Scheme, all adds to the importance of finding a specialist expert to carry out these works – and we will continue to work hard to promote and support our PCA members.
Good News: Court backs Firms over Covid Claims
Potentially some good news for both PCA members and many other tradespeople out there. ‘Hot off the press’, the Supreme Court has just ruled to back small firms over Covid related business interruption insurance claims.
However, will this judgment finally mean businesses across the country will get the insurance they paid for? It certain now looks set that insurers are going to be forced to pay out and we hope if some of our PCA members have been trying to claim, you do finally get this payout. What we do suspect however, is that the ‘floodgates’ have now been opened and for many PCA members, this might now be your opportunity to go back, review your insurance cover, and potentially claim back some lost revenue for interruption and hardship over both 2020 & the start of 2021..

CLC Message to the Construction Industry
The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has recently published and sent out an open letter to all construction and property repair firms clarifying the position of the construction industry during this latest lockdown.
For many PCA members, a lot of the information provided within the public letter will be guidance you are aware of and already following. However, there is some helping information, links and supporting documents that compliment the PCA related documents sent out within last weeks weekly news that you might find useful.

PCA Submits Abstract to ICMB21
We have recently submitted an abstract to the International Conference on Moisture in Buildings (ICMB21) event to showcase our recently launched Building Moisture Index (BMI) Reporting Tool. This is another fantastic opportunity for your Association to represent our members and demonstrate the NEW tool’s capabilities:
- Standardised, accurate, fast and reliable scientific-technical interpretation of indoor atmospheric moisture imbalance
- Impartial technical evidence of atmospheric moisture imbalance and identification of causal factors
- Identifies potential solutions to quantify/rectify condensation and mould
- Evidence for retrofitting projects by assessing indoor environment before and after installation
- Achieves better indoor air quality and healthier moisture-balanced living environments
Organised by the UK Centre for Moisture in Buildings (UKCMB), this event takes place online on 28th-29th June 2021. We will keep members informed as we progress through the process.

Changes to the Requirements for Sub-Contracting to GHGS
Some of our members may have seen the update from TrustMark regarding changes to the requirements for sub-contracting on the Green Homes Grant Scheme. For those who might have missed it, TrustMark have shared a statement to clear up any misinformation which has been circling regarding the update:
“The change to the T&C’s of the scheme for sub-contractors allows the primary TrustMark Registered Business to undertake the delivery of the work for the voucher and allows for this primary business to now use sub-contracting businesses to complete the work on their behalf without the sub-contracting business being required to be TrustMark Registered, MCS registered or hold the required PAS.”

Wood Protection Association Code of Practice
The Wood Protection Association (WPA) has released its ‘Code of Practice: Industrial Wood Preservation’, providing detailed guidance for all members who are involved with using treated wood.
This document replaces the formerly titled: ‘WPA Manual: Industrial Wood Preservation – Specification and Practice’ and is a valuable guide on the correct way to specify wood preservative treatment in the UK. Members can access the Code of Practice by clicking on the button below.

HSE Continuing with Spot Checks
Members are reminded that during this lockdown period, HSE will continue to carry out spot checks and inspections on businesses to ensure:
- COVID-secure measures have been implemented in accordance with government guidance
- businesses that continue to operate are COVID-secure
- everyone is following the measures that have been put in place to manage the risks from coronavirus
During the calls and visits, HSE provides advice and guidance to manage risk and protect workers and visitors and where businesses are not managing this, immediate action will be taken. Members can access more information from HSE by clicking on the button below.
