RICS Working Group for Knotweed risk categories
Since the Commons Select Committee met in January, the PCA has been involved in meetings with RICS to discuss the status of IP27/2012 (the RICS guidance on Japanese Knotweed Risk Assessment). Some broad agreement has been reached amongst all stakeholder groups (contractors, valuers, lenders) and a Working Group has now been established to look in detail at specific proposals regarding ‘Table 1 – Risk Categories’. We are optimistic there will be significant news to report by the time of the conference in November!

The KTP Project Update & Conference Workshop
Members will recall that the KTP project set out to see if it was possible to develop a tool that would accurately give surveyors information on the causes of mould. After two and a half years of work, we were pleased to announce we had been successful!

Amenity Forum Conference 2019
The 2019 Amenity Forum Conference took place last week. Noteworthy speakers included PCA member Ian Graham of Complete Weed Control, who gave a contractors view of 21st Century Amenity Management saying we all need to do our bit to counter the negative messages on the internet about glyphosate so that, under IPM, we decide the best chemical / non-chemical strategies based on science and cost / safety / environment / effectiveness.
John Moverley capped-off the day by announcing the launch of the new Amenity Standard (January 2020). The PCA’s Invasive Weed Group members will automatically form the initial membership of the Standard and we will bring you updates on how this develops. (Official launch will be in Edinburgh in January).

Training – Get Ready for Autumn
Ground Gas – Installation & Verification
A highly practical one day workshop which takes a look at best practice and the latest CIRIA C735 guidance on the verification of gas protection measures.
Safe Use of Biocides
Get your technicians trained in the Safe Use of Biocides! This course has been a welcome initiative for the hundreds who have already attended – so the question is, what are you waiting for? Give your technicians the chance to join our Professional Users of Biocides Register too!
Waterproofing Awareness
This course will enable team members to consider how they need to work to fit in with the waterproofing team to help avoid technical mistakes and project delays etc. The training is at a level for those who will benefit from a basic understanding of structural waterproofing, and for whom a technician level course would be too in depth.
Contact the training team today on 0844 375 4301 or email [email protected].
PCA in the News
Coverage this week sees Irish publications Ballymena Guardian, Antrim Guardian, Tyrone Constitution and Tyrone Courier featuring the winter maintenance release. The Invasive Weed Conference appears in print in the October issue of Mortgage Finance Gazette.
