Back to the ‘New Normal’ from 1st June
Your Association is delighted to report that we will be back in the office from Monday 1st June. Our Risk Assessments are in place and we will be slowly returning to the office for what will become the ‘new normal’.
In line with Government guidance, we cannot all return at once, but many of us will be in the office on a phased approach as we begin to prepare for training to commence sometime later in June.

Can Air Quality Control COVID-19?
Your Association has long held the view that improving indoor air quality in all buildings is vital and, as your CEO Steve Hodgson writes in his latest blog, ‘perhaps for the first time in my professional memory, the basic principles of maintaining good and therefore healthy air quality is being routinely discussed by journalists on the nine o’clock news.’

Updated Ventilation Guidance Documents
Your Association has added another couple of Ventilation Guidance Documents to the Technical Library this week. Ventilation is a ‘hot topic’ right now and members can access these two documents via the button below:
- Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) Systems: Issue 2
- This is a completely revised and updated document. A “must read” for all those involved in specifying, supplying or installing PIV systems in existing homes.
- De-centralised Mechanical Extract Ventilation (dMEV) Systems: Issue 1
- dMEV fans are increasingly used to provide ventilation in existing homes. This brand new guide should prove to be a “go to” document for all those involved in specifying, supplying or installing dMEV systems in existing homes.

Members’ Success with CITB’s Skills & Training Fund
We have talked about CITB’s Skills and Training Fund on many occasions, which enables you, our members, to claim up to £25,000 for training (depending on the size of your business). In these uncertain times, what’s not to love about that? We understand that the thought of additional paperwork may seem overwhelming, but as we all aim to get back to some kind of ‘new normal’, why not take the bull by the horns and ensure you get that all important funding to help your business?

Japanese knotweed Research
You may remember a recent blog from Peter Fitzsimons regarding Japanese knotweed research (click on button below), whereby Dr Dan Jones referred to a group in Canada who claimed that knotweed rhizome fragments as small as 0.02g could regenerate! As this was 35 times smaller than the benchmark of 0.7g, we thought it was worth further investigating! Peter tracked down the lab where this work originated (Université Laval, Quebec) and requested more details and, yes, the figure above is accurate.
The full details of this research will be the subject of a future article. However we share this with members now, as we are pleased that it emphasises key cautionary messages featured within our own PCA Code of Practice: Management of Japanese knotweed.
