PCA Training Down Under!

This week we completed an intensive training and examination programme tailored to fit the needs of PCA member, Newton Waterproofing. This was developed following an increased interest in the Certificated Surveyor of Structural Waterproofing (CSSW) qualification from Structural Waterproofing Professionals in Australia and New Zealand!

The event welcomed six candidates who had travelled halfway around the world to complete the training and demonstrates the strength of the PCA brand and accredited training programme.

IWCG Meeting Welcomes Environment Agency

Our next Invasive Weed Group Open Meeting takes place here at PCA’s offices on 17th September (10 am) and will include a formal presentation from Dr. Mark Diamond, Head of Ecology at the Environment Agency (EA).

The EA and DEFRA have been tasked by the Commons select committee to identify priorities for research and to seek collaboration with “major Japanese Knotweed remediation firms”. This is an important opportunity for the PCA to engage with Government and support the pursuit of science-based standards for the JKW management sector, so we hope as many members as possible will be able to attend and contribute.

A Moisture Balancing Act

PCA’s Technical Manager James Berry’s article ‘Moisture Balancing Act’ has been featured in the latest technical bulleting from Sava:

“Moisture held in the air has always been of great importance to all surveyors. Whilst the ventilation industry and building regs has moved a very long way to satisfy the needs of housebuilders, people in older houses and flats still struggle with moisture-related problems such as condensation and mould…”

Apprenticeships – Addressing the Skills Shortage

Apprenticeships are not just for those leaving full-time education and seeking a route into employment, it can also be a good step for individuals looking to change career or wanting to achieve an industry-recognised qualification while on the job!

#beinspired Why not join the 83% who rely on apprenticeship programmes to provide the skilled workers they need for the future? We really do believe in the importance of providing appropriate and relevant training in which to build a career upon.

Training – Get Ready for Autumn

Evaluating Ventilation in Existing Buildings

Condensation and mould are the most common forms of dampness in buildings and it is becoming increasingly essential for anyone that inspects buildings, to understand the significant role that ventilation plays in controlling these issues and how to identify defects in ventilation systems.

Basement Water Management

The course provides delegates with a general understanding of the complete system and enables them to ask the right questions when surveying and installing this type of equipment. Delivered at the PCA Practical Training Centre, delegates will be able to see a working pump station.

Fire Warden Training

This ONE-TIME-ONLY offer is your opportunity to attend a half-day basic fire warden course. Candidates will learn:

  • the principles of fire fighting equipment
  • evacuation procedures
  • fire warden duties
  • practical use of fire extinguishers using fire simulator human behaviour

This course will ensure that your duties under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 will be satisfied.

Contact the training team today on 0844 375 4301 or email [email protected].
