The GB Non-native Species Secretariat and the role of its inspectorate
Zoë has a degree in Environmental Conservation from the Royal Agricultural University and a qualification in Regulation and Compliance, Zoë has over five years of experience in plant health, species management, and environmental legislation enforcement.
Zoë begun her career as a Plant Health Inspector at Heathrow Airport, where she spent three years ensuring the compliance of internationally traded fruits and vegetables with Plant health regulations. This role involved meticulous inspection and enforcement to prevent the introduction of harmful pests and diseases through trade.
For the past two years, Zoë has served as an Inspector with the Non-Native Species Inspectorate, where she focuses on enforcing legislation concerning non-native invasive species. Her responsibilities include rapid response actions to control both plants and animals like the Yellow-legged Hornets, Monk Parakeets, and Floating Pennywort. Zoë also conducts population surveys for a wide range of species such as the Greater White-toothed Shrew, this is alongside my regular inspections.
