It was a great pleasure to be asked by Michelle at ‘Professional Conferencing’ to present a one hour long session to over 400 building surveyors this week. The conference event titled ‘Current Residential Property Issues 2020‘ was fully online and extremely well organised and choreographed. By every measure, a great success.

Explaining the challenges presented to damp specialists

The conference, beamed across the country, gave an opportunity for us to explore and explain the latest thinking and challenges that face specialists who investigate dampness in buildings. The presentation emphasised the benefits of having a detailed understanding of moisture imbalance and of how free water effects solid materials.

Diagnosing defects and the challenges ahead

The emerging challenge of diagnosing defects and identifying the potential for water ingress where retrofit insulation exists was also discussed. The same subject that formed the basis of our recent webinar: ‘Dealing with the Effects of Damp – Principles & Considerations’.

Is it the case online conferences CAN work?!?

As we look forward to 2021, we can begin to think about our own PCA conferences? Our first brush with a fully online, multi-day event was very reassuring. As well as it being a great opportunity to promote PCA members and showcase the work of the Association, we have learned some valuable lessons that help us with our own events.
