Presenting at the IEDE Event

A special thanks to the board and team at UCL who have recently invited the PCA to talk at the UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering (IEDE) Open Day on 27th March.

It is the PCA’s and UCL first major opportunity to showcase the research we are undertaking through the ongoing KTP project run by Dr Paula Lopez-Arce and will not only demonstrate our investment in research, but also our collaboration on many UKCMB and IEDE projects.

This event is part of Bartlett 100 – a year long celebration to mark 100 years since the naming of the faculty.

Biocidal Products Regulation Review

The Biocidal Products Regulations (BPR) review of active substances for use in wood preservatives is now complete. This is quite a milestone in the process towards achieving a pan-European approval scheme for wood preservative products – a process which started over 10 years ago!

So what does this mean for PCA members? For those contractors who regularly deal with woodworm, wet rot and dry rot, they can now feel confident about future access to safe and effective professional use products. To find out more, click on the button below:

Retrofit Insulation Masterclass

With more and more homeowners, landlords and tenants looking to improve the thermal performance of older buildings; poor design and delivery of retrofit insulation to solid-walled buildings has led to problems in both building fabric and occupant wellbeing.

With the continuously growing number of retrofitted buildings that will be encountered, identifying these problems and understand the implications of the defect will increasingly become more common. Could YOU identify and resolve these issues?

If the answer is ‘No’, then consider booking your place on the next Retrofit Insulation Masterclass via the button below.

Builder Breaches Building Regulations

In January, South Gloucestershire Council prosecuted a local builder £11,689 when he was found guilty of non-compliance with the building regulations.

Cllr Paul Hughes, Cabinet Member responsible for Communities and Tourism, said: “This case demonstrates the importance of ensuring the correct route is followed when undertaking any building work.”

Incidents such as this certainly highlight the importance of appointing competent contractors, which your Association strongly advocates across all sectors.
