Research Projects Update
Our commitment to research and development continues as your Association works to collaborate with organisations in delivering the importance of good ventilation and accurate diagnostics, particularly for Housing Associations, Local Authorities, councils and universities in the UK. But what exactly have we been doing 'research wise' and who are we currently working with? Our work with Housing Associations Our work with housing associations has included investigations on the building performance and indoor environment of social and private housing, using our newly upgraded condensation and mould diagnostic system to assess the effect of excessive atmospheric moisture and the repairs taking place to solve these moisture related issues. We have been testing other important parameters such as CO2 levels and we’re continuing to explore further development with the diagnostic tool, to support the improvement of the indoor air quality in UK homes. Research Projects with Universities PCA's Head of Research Dr Paula Lopez-Arce, is still currently supervising a doctoral research project on the development of a management system for damp control in Residential Buildings at Leeds Becket University (Sustainability Institute School of the Built Environment and Engineering). Through Maple R&D, Paula is also collaborating on a research project with knowledge transfer managers and the Built Environment Climate Change Innovations (BECCI) department at the University of Wolverhampton, Faculty of Science and Engineering. The BECCI project engages with SMEs, linking them to academic experts to drive product and service innovation that will contribute to the UK campaign to reduce our C02 emissions. Other research collaborations Your Association is also in discussion with other universities too, including University College London (UCL) and Salford University. These potential collaboration projects plan to investigate the efficacy of ventilation systems through the assessment of surface and atmospheric moisture in UK properties, subjected or not, to retrofitting works. Contributing to the Buildings Journal We shared with members some time ago that Paula was acting as a Guest Editor for Buildings Journal on "Protection of Buildings with Historic, Architectural or Cultural Value". Whilst the deadline for submissions closed in December, there are still opportunities to submit a manuscript for anonymous peer-review, with no publication fees! If you wish to contribute, then simply click on the button below.
