Indoor mould – Trade body to host special seminar
National trade body the Property Care Association (PCA) has secured internationally renowned industrial hygienist Caoimhin Connell for a specialist seminar on indoor mould.

‘Indoor Fungi – An Industrial Hygiene Perspective’ is a one-day programme delivered by Caoimhin, which is relevant to professionals working in environmental health, local authorities and social housing, as well as insurers, surveyors, property managers, those in damp and timber related occupations and flood recovery specialists.
Based in the US, Caoimhin is a former analytical chemist who’s now a principle with Forensic Applications Consulting Technologies Inc, in Colorado.
What is Industrial Hygiene?
Industrial hygiene, or Occupational hygiene, is generally defined as “the art and science dedicated to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, communication and control of environmental stressors in, or arising from, the work place [or living environment] that may result in injury, illness, impairment, or affect the well being of workers and members of the community. These stressors are divided into the categories biological, chemical, physical, ergonomic and psychosocial.” Read more here.
Exploring the topic of health effects of indoor mould
The seminar takes place on 17 May 2016, at the Marriott Hotel, Hinchingbrooke Business Park in Huntingdon.
It is an extension of the PCA’s annual conference – being held at the Møller Centre – within the University of Cambridge on May 12 – which this year addresses the issue of moisture in buildings.
Caoimhin will be presenting at the PCA Conference and then staying on in the UK to deliver the indoor mould seminar at Huntingdon on the 17th..
Steve Hodgson, chief executive of the PCA, said: “We are delighted that Caoimhin will be able to share his expertise at the conference and the seminar too.
“There are different views on the health effects of indoor funghi in buildings and this seminar will offer an interesting perspective on the debate.
“It’s a very topical subject. Increasingly homeowners and tenants are putting on pressure to address the problem, and are turning to social housing and local authority providers, as well as insurers, to address the clean-up work.”
