Furlough Scheme Extended Until March 2021
Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced yesterday that businesses and people across the UK will benefit from increased support over the winter months. For PCA members this means:
- The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) will now run until the end of March with employees receiving 80% of their current salary for hours not worked.
- The Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) will be increased to 80% of average trading profits, up to a maximum of £7,500.
This will be welcome news for many members, and for this support to be put in place for long enough to help your businesses recover and to help you get back on your feet – some certainty for the months ahead.

CEO’s First Podcast with The Surveyors Hub
As reported last week, your CEO Steve Hodgson was invited to his first podcast interview with Marion Ellis and Phil Parnham from ‘The Surveyors Hub’, which members can listen to now via the button below!
Many of our members will know who The Surveyors Hub is, but for those that don’t they are a collective of well-respected, experienced residential valuers and surveyors committed to supporting professional development and well-being. This growing platform of podcasts brings together a wealth of knowledge and informative topics from across the surveying industry. We were pleased to gain the opportunity to talk about the PCA and the good work all of our members do on a day to day basis.

New Online Training: UKCMB Course
We shared with members a few weeks ago the news that we will be delivering UK Centre for Moisture in Building’s ( UKCMB) ‘Understanding and Managing Moisture Risks in Buildings’ course.
We recognise that understanding of moisture is essential for all building professionals and it is for this very reason we have facilitated this online course. Why not improve your knowledge or the knowledge of your colleagues with this new and convenient online training course and learn:
- How to identify moisture-related risks associated with new buildings, or retrofit projects and know how to mitigate them
- The mechanisms of moisture transfer within buildings and how to better design out or manage them better
- The conditions that give rise to condensation and mould growth
- Moisture risk assessment and management techniques and be able to apply them

EPPO Publishes Giant Hogweed Guidance
Some reading material for our invasive weed members during the long autumn nights perhaps…? The European Plant Protection Organisation (EPPO) have published their research report on Giant Hogweed and our Invasive Weed members will know this is a significant ecological and public health problem across Europe.
The report doesn’t include any ‘revelations’ so can best be seen as complementary to our own Guidance Note – but does help to support what we already consider to be ‘best practice’, and provides good examples of integrated weed management plans for these species.

Biodeterioration of Wooden Cultural Heritage
We shared with members back in February of an email we received from the University of Attica (Athens). Professor Anastasia Pournou requested to use some images for her book “Biodeterioration of Wooden Cultural Heritage in Terrestrial and Aquatic Ecosystems”, which she came across within our library of convention documents.
For PCA members this library is available for you to use and contains a great wealth of history, knowledge and information. Discovering how far afield our history and reputation goes is not only incredible, but demonstrates just how relevant the information is today!
