Join us for a free, one-hour webinar, the Health Risks of Damp and Mould. This joint event between the British Thoracic Society and Property Care Association will introduce health professionals, housing management professionals and property care contractors, to research which demonstrates the main health impacts of living with damp and mould.

Dr Laura-Jane Smith a Consultant Respiratory Physician at King’s College Hospital, will highlight the evidence of harm seen by GPs and thoracic consultants, how health impacts could be treated, and the questions to ask patients presenting with specific symptoms which could indicate an environmental problem.

James Berry, Deputy CEO at the PCA, will focus on the UK regulation that exists and what this means for social and private tenants. He will focus on what you should do if damp or mould is present in a home, when to raise concerns and who to contact for further advice.

This webinar will provide value for anyone who is keen to understand how to help those living with damp and mould.

About Dr Laura – Jane Smith 

Dr LJ Smith is a Consultant Respiratory Physician at King’s College Hospital. She graduated from Cambridge University in 2006 and trained in East Anglia and North East London before being appointed as a Consultant in 2019. As a Consultant her clinical interests include airways disease, integrated care, lung cancer and breathlessness. She is motivated by tackling health inequalities and has been part of a project to develop a mental health nurse role embedded in the lung cancer service; a group working to improve the nutritional education of staff and patients; and a team working to embed prevention in all healthcare interactions, through a Lifestyle Medicine approach. She completed a Diploma in Lifestyle Medicine in 2022.

She also has expertise in sustainable healthcare and holds positions as the Clinical Lead for Sustainability at King's College Hospital, and the British Thoracic Society Trustee for Sustainability. She has been an invited speaker on this topic at international conferences & political events. She completed the NHS Leadership Academy Sustainable Leadership programme in 2023. She is an active campaigner with MedAct on air pollution, housing and climate justice.
