Why you should join the International Invasive Weed Conference

As November draws near, the window for invasive non-native plants begins to close and the winter hibernation of these plants begin to dawn. The final herbicide spray treatments have been undertaken and what better way to finish off another successful season, with another, innovate, technical and thought provoking line up at the International Invasive Weed Conference on Thursday 28 November 2024.

What to expect

Each year the conference has grown in stature and Ian Graham from Complete Weed Control and Amenity Forum Director chairs our first session. This session will present case studies from widespread Europe and back to myself, Prof Max Wade and Dr Mark Fennell.

Our second session is chaired by one of the “go to” indiviudals within the industry, Trevor Renals from the Environment Ageny. Trevor has been so influential over the years within the invasive weed sector, and who better to chair our very first, designated aquatic weeds section. A session designed to push the boundaries and deepen the knowledge of all those wishing to dip their toes within aquatic weeds water.

Our panel debate is as always, topical, interactive and engaging. We will dive into the political vs practical debate of dealing with invasives without Glyphosate, does going green really mean going green, or are we toiling with a political agenda not backed by science?

We finish on possibly the most important session of the day, featuring presentations on guidance policy and the law. Our very own Brian Taylor takes to the stand, talking about a load of rubbish (requirements for waste management). Followed by Undine Kalcenaua from Defra who will be updating us on the changes in lists / legislation for invasive non-native plants. With a final round off from Zoe Golding, who wants to tell us who the Non-Native Species Inspectorate actually is and what they do.

Meet our exhibitors too

As well as the presentations, we have outstanding exhibitors who you can interact with, including Burnwell Incinerators who may have the solution to burning invasive plants on-site, to an opportunity to get your hands on a new Bamboo identification guide which may help you distinguish your Phyllostachys from your Sasa Palmata. Finally attendees will be able to get their hands on the new Invasive Non-Native Plant Code of Practice - the first of its kind which extends beyond Japanese Knotweed.
